Course Description
This course is an introduction to Earth and Space Science integrated with physics and chemistry concepts. Throughout the course, scientific and engineering practices will be emphasized. Career information and current research in science, particularly in New Mexico, will be discussed. This course satisfies the laboratory science requirement for high school graduation. It is based on the existing New Mexico State Science standards and the Integrated Science EOC blueprint developed during school year 2014-2015.
Grading
Each week will consist of lecture, homework and activities that reinforce the idea of the week
• Homework is assigned weekly and is typically due two days after it has been assigned. Late homework is
accepted one day after the due date, but will be penalized 20% points
• Quizzes are given weekly
• Tests are given at the end of each major unit. If you aren’t satisfied with your grade, you can schedule a
retake.
• This class uses an interactive notebook. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with the notebook and
keep it organized. At the end of each quarter, the notebook will be graded and the grade will count as a
test grade.
• Grading Breakdown
o Homework/Classwork - 40%
o Tests - 30%
o Quizzes - 20%
o Labs - 10%
Classroom Rules
• Be respectful of yourself, your classmates and your teachers.
o This includes not talking out of turn and allowing others to speak without interruption.
• Be prompt and prepared everyday.
o It is important for the students to be on time to class.
o There is no excuse for late homework. I expect you to always turn in your homework. Homework
may be turned in the day after it is due but 20 points will be deducted.
• Please listen to instructions the first time they are given.
• Electronic devices are not to be used during class time as per district rules.
Keys for Success in Integrated Science
• Have a positive attitude! ☺
• I am here to help you succeed, so feel free to ask me for help. I am available before school and at lunch in
my room.
• Ask lots of questions. If you are unclear about something from the textbook, lab, notes or discussion, ask.
• Make sure that you understand how the lecture, homework and lab interrelate.
• Start studying for tests early. Make use of the Cornell note system to make your study time more
efficient.
